The five fillies purchased for the 2022 PR Fillies Fund have all been named and have completed at least one preparation with their allocated trainers.
Partners in the Fillies Fund have some exciting times to look forward to with each of the fillies pleasing their allocated trainers.
1. STARLIGHT GIRL (Zoustar x Faustine).
Allocated trainers: Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
STARLIGHT GIRL is currently enjoying a well earned spell. This athletic filly is compact in size but has a great attitude and progressed through to a barrier trail at Randwick last preparation. Unfortunately the trial was taken off the turf and run on the synthetic track and she got a squeeze after jumping and then copped the worst of the kick back throughout. It was very much an education experience and Adrian Bott was quick to point out that with her action and attitude she is much better suited on the turf. Importantly at every stage of the preparation she responded enthusiastically to every challenge from her trainers and she showed that she is a racy filly with a great attitude. She will return to the main stable in early December following her spell.
2. FURLANETTO (Zoustar x Single Style).
Allocated trainers: Tony and Calvin McEvoy.

FURLANETTO is also enjoying a spell at present at Yungaburra near Kyneton. She progressed to a jump out at Ballarat during her last preparation. Like many of the good Zoustar fillies she showed plenty of early promise and at one point was being aimed towards the Magic Millions 2yo Classic. However as she got deeper into her preparation it became evident that she would benefit from time in the paddock so that she could continue to grow and develop so that her athletic potential would be maximised. She will return to the stable in November to begin her second preparation but she will not be pushed along as she is the type of filly that will be better as a 3yo.
3. MISS MINERVA (I Am Invincible x Athena’s Lass).
Allocated trainer: Liam Howley.
Rob and Mark went and inspected this filly at Liam’s stables shortly after she had returned from her spell at Noorilim Park. She has grown and is starting to really filly out her frame. She is a sensible filly with a strong mind and she is thriving being back in the stables. We were both impressed by her and given how she responds to her work it would not be any surprise to see her at the trials and then racing this preparation. She looks a fast filly with plenty of upside.
4. FIRST BLESSING (Exceed and Excel x Raaneen).
Allocated trainers: Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr.
This strong athletic filly is recovering well from a paddock accident which has delayed her career slightly. She is currently in pre-training with Peter Dalziel’s down on the Mornington Peninsula and is expected to rejoin the Price Kent stable in about three weeks. Mick Price is very pleased with her recovery and is very happy with her condition, “sound, clean and happy”. She has a very positive attitude and has the physical strength to progress to at least a barrier trial this preparation and it would be no surprise to see her at the races in early 2023.
5. BLUE BERETS (I Am Invincible x Peace Force).
Allocated trainers: John, Michael and Wayne Hawkes.
BLUE BERETS is currently spelling after her first familiarisation preparation with Team Hawkes. She will start back in pre-training program in November with a view to being back in the Rosehill stables in mid to late November. She is taking all the work well and is a filly who has benefitted from having plenty of time to grow and develop. She should progress to a barrier trial next preparation but we will be in no rush with her as she will be better as a 3yo.
