The Inglis Easter Yearling Sale once again lived up to its reputation as the highest profile yearling sale in Australia.  A reduced catalogue saw the 339 lots sold at an exceptional average of $447,832.  Trade was strong from the start of the sale through to the completion and 25 of the lots sold made $1,000,000 or more.

This was has developed into more of a "Select Sale" with a high emphasis on physical type combined with elite pedigrees.  As a result the competition for high quality colts was exceptional from start to finish.

Rob and Mark were able to secure three colts that we have tremendous faith in.  They have all started the breaking in process and will soon be allocated to their trainers.

LOT 137 DUNDEEL x SALUTATIONS by REDOUTE'S CHOICE. $500,000 from Arrowfield Stud.

This stunning colt is a full brother to the winner of the G1 Caulfield Guineas and leading New Zealand sire SUPER SETH.  He is also a half brother to G2 winner WILD PLANET.  This was a colt that we were particularly taken with.  He is attractive, well balanced with a deep girth and a good shoulder and strong hind quarters.  He is a terrific mover and a colt that had plenty of admirers.  This was a colt that we believed would make in the range from $800,000 to $1,000,000 and we were more than surprised when he was knocked down to PR Thoroughbreds for $500,000.  This is a classic type of colt that looks like he will thrive as a 3yo like his brother.

LOT 236 ST MARK'S BASILICA x TUUSULA. $200,000 from Arrowfield Stud.

We don't often buy colts by first season sires but at every sale that we attended this year we were very taken with the stock of this son of leading French sire Siyouni.  St Mark's Basilica was an exceptional racehorse winning a Group One as a 2yo and then a further four Group One races as a 3yo at distances from 1400m - 2100m.  He has stamped his stock very well. This colt was a very fluent mover who paraded well every time we inspected him.  He had a good attitude and good looks to go with it.  His dam Tuusula has had four to the races for four winners including one stakes performer.  She is a daughter of five time Group One winning mare Miss Finland who was versatile enough to win a Golden Slipper at 2 over 1200m and a VRC Oaks at 3 over 2500m.  He was knocked down to the team for $200,000.

LOT 252 EXTREME CHOICE x WARMTH. $175,000 from Newgate Farm.

Extreme Choice is a sire phenomenon and his stock are usually extremely hard to purchase at a yearling sale.  He has sired the winners of the Golden Slipper and the Melbourne Cup and is noted for both his versatility and his amazing statistics.  This colt vetted clean and was a horse that we thought highly of.  Initially passed in through the ring we reinspected him and made an offer to Newgate of $175,000 which they reluctantly accepted. This colt is an October foal and is the mares first foal.  Possibly a little bit similar to his sire this colt is on the smaller size, but the good Extreme Choice's come in all shapes and sizes.  He is an athletic colt with plenty of scope to grow and develop.

This completes the purchase of colts for 2025 with six colts purchased at a total spend of $2,475,000.
